Australia eVisitor Visa Eligible Countries: The Full List (2026)

Not everyone can apply for the Australia eVisitor visa. It is only open to people who hold a passport from one of 36 specific European countries. If your country is on the list, great. If it is not, you will need a different type of Australian visa.

What Is the eVisitor Visa?

The Australia eVisitor visa (subclass 651) lets eligible passport holders visit Australia for tourism or business for up to three months at a time. It is valid for 12 months from the date it is granted, and you can enter and leave Australia as many times as you want during that period.

One of the best things about it is that there is no visa label or stamp. It is linked directly to your passport number in Australia’s system. When you show up at the border, they just scan your passport and it comes up.

Which Countries Are Eligible?

There are 36 countries in total. They are all in Europe, either EU member states or a handful of non-EU European countries that Australia has included on the list.

EU Member States (27 Countries)

If you hold a regular passport from any of these countries, you can apply for the eVisitor visa:

• Austria

These countries are not part of the EU but are still on Australia’s eligible list:

The One Rule That Trips People Up

Your passport nationality is what matters, not where you live.

So if you are a French citizen living in Dubai, you can still apply for the eVisitor. But if you are an American living in Germany, you cannot. Residence does not count. Only your passport does.

This confuses a lot of people. If your passport is from a country that is not on the list, you need a different Australian visa no matter where you currently live.

What About UK Passport Types?

The UK is on the eligible list, but not every type of British passport qualifies. Only a standard British Citizen passport works for the eVisitor visa. If you hold one of these, you cannot use the eVisitor:

• British National Overseas (BNO) passport
• British Dependent Territories Citizen passport
• British Overseas Citizen passport

If your passport falls into one of those categories, you will need to apply for the Subclass 600 visitor visa instead.

My Country Is Not on the List. What Now?

If your country is not among the 36 above, you still have options. Australia offers other visitor visas for people from non-eligible countries. The most common one is the Subclass 600 Tourist visa.
